Pamela Reardon, A True Leader for A better county.

Born and raised in the vibrant city of Calgary Alberta Canada, I embraced my adventurous and nurturing spirit spending countless hours horseback riding and caring for two beloved horses. My educational journey led me to earn a Chemical Technology degree from SAIT, followed by a Bachelor’s in Commerce majoring in Finance and minoring in Marketing, equipping me with a broad skill set and a keen understanding of complex systems.

My professional path has been diverse and rewarding, spanning Real Estate, Software Sales, and Research within the Petroleum Industry. In 1987, my career brought me to the United States, and shortly thereafter, in 1989, I settled in Alpharetta, and became a U.S. citizen in early 1996. Eventually making East Cobb in Cobb County my home for over 25 years. Alongside my husband, Tom, we’re blessed with a family of six children and eight grandchildren, a testament to our commitment to family.

Deeply rooted in faith and service, I have devoted my time and efforts to St. Ann’s Church, serving as the secretary of our Women’s Council for the past three years. Our work focuses on organizing fundraisers and supporting various charities, embodying the spirit of giving and compassion. My commitment to community extends beyond the church doors, having volunteered in numerous political campaigns and held significant roles within state and local political parties. My leadership and dedication to service are further demonstrated through my role on the board of directors at the Family Life Restoration Center in Mabelton, a nonprofit dedicated to uplifting families by ensuring they have access to essential needs like food, clothing, and shelter.

Having recently retired from Real Estate, I remain deeply engaged in the community, regularly attending Board of Elections and Board of Commissioners meetings to advocate for the betterment of Cobb County. My passion for gardening and fitness reflect my belief in nurturing growth and maintaining balance, principles that guide my vision for a thriving, local lifestyle.

My story is one of dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of my God, my family, and the citizens of Cobb County. As a candidate, I am driven by a vision to harness our collective strengths and champion policies that uplift every citizen, ensuring a prosperous, future for all.

My Vision for Responsible Governance and Community Empowerment

Vision

Embrace a future where your voice genuinely shapes our community with a platform built on fiscal responsibility, transparency, and respect. We’re championing a movement towards lower taxes, sensible spending, and rational development, ensuring government actions are transparent and community-driven. Stand with us to protect our hard-earned dollars from unnecessary taxes and wasteful projects, while fostering a government that listens, respects, and engages with its citizens at every step. Together, let’s ensure Cobb County thrives through prudent governance and active community participation.

My Mission

Enhancing Transparency for Informed Community Engagement

Our commitment begins with ensuring transparency in all government actions, particularly concerning zoning meetings and hearings. The introduction of a "10-Day Rule" will guarantee that all pertinent details of these meetings are made available to the public well in advance. Furthermore, we advocate for earlier presentation of budgets to both citizens and Board members, encouraging active participation and informed discourse in our community's financial decisions.

Commitment to Fiscal Responsibility and Tax Relief

Despite a significant growth in our tax digest by 7 to 10% annually over the past three years, the Board has not adjusted the millage rate accordingly, leading to an undue tax burden on our citizens. We pledge to advocate for a lower millage rate that reflects our community's economic growth, ensuring that our citizens' voices are heard and acted upon, reversing the trend of disregarding public input at critical meetings.

Curbing Runaway Spending with Prudent Management

Our platform stands firm against wasteful government expenditure on pet projects and unnecessary consulting, particularly by those without a vested interest in Cobb County. We oppose the imposition of additional taxes or fees, such as the rainwater tax/fee and Msplost or Transit tax, which do not address the root causes of our challenges, including flooding and aging infrastructure. Instead, we propose practical solutions grounded in the community's needs and fiscal prudence.

Rational Approach to Development and Infrastructure

We advocate for common-sense density and development policies that consider the long-term impacts on traffic, community character, and the environment. Recognizing the importance of maintaining our county's mobility without compromising our roads with unnecessary lane reductions for dedicated bus lanes, our focus is on innovative solutions that genuinely address traffic and infrastructure concerns without imposing undue burdens on our residents.

Respect and Inclusivity in Governance

Central to our platform is treating every citizen with the respect they deserve, listening earnestly to their concerns, and incorporating their input into our decision-making processes. We believe in a governance model that values and seeks out community involvement, ensuring that policies and initiatives reflect the true needs and wishes of those we serve.

MDJ: Cobb School District Receives Positive Cognia Review

The Cobb County School District has been accredited for an additional six years following a comprehensive review by its accreditation firm, Cognia. This review is the first since the Alpharetta-based firm sparked controversy in 2021, when it conducted a special review of the school district due to complaints from the board’s three Democratic members amid partisan conflict. Cognia announced that special review after receiving a letter from board members Dr. Jaha Howard, Charisse Davis and Leroy Tre’ Hutchins, as well as messages from about 50 members of the district’s staff and community. That review was eventually invalidated by Cognia CEO Mark Elgart when Cobb schools brought forward evidence that the firm ignored in the review process. Cognia’s botched report resulted in proposed legislation from state Rep. Ginny Ehrhart, R-west Cobb, and other lawmakers, that barred accreditation firms from evaluating Georgia public school districts on political concerns like board infighting. While that bill failed to move forward, Gov. Brian Kemp signed a similar one into law last year. During Thursday’s Cobb Board of Education meeting, board member David Banks recalled what it was like when that Cognia evaluation took place several years ago. “In my opinion, it was corrupt, but, as a result,… Cognia finally realized that they made a mistake and you have to give them credit,” Banks said. “I think what turned out to be a negative wound up to be a very positive situation.” Read Full Article on the MDJOnline.com

MDJ AROUND TOWN: Race For County Commission

Republican Pam Reardon, who faces Democrat Jaha Howard for the open District 2 seat on the Cobb Board of Commissioners, asked the audience at the Cobb GOP barbecue to remember who she is running against. When Howard was on the Cobb school board, he would kneel during the Pledge of Allegiance, Reardon said. “Now, he has gone through the district and he has tried to convince people I know to vote for him, and he’s kind of desperate because of what he said.” Read Full Article on the MDJOnline.com

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: We Don’t Trust You – The Cobb County BoC Shell Game

Dear Editor,
Majority Cobb County Board of Commissioners (BoC),

We don’t trust you! County Manager Dr. Jackie McMorris made that statement, and we agree.
The most recent atrocity in your “shell game” of distorting data/facts is your determination to approve (6/11/24) the ancient, highly unpopular, excessively expensive 2011 SPLOST Lower Roswell Road (LRR) project, much expanded from the project approved by voters in 2011. It is a project so unpopular that former commissioners would not allow it to go forward in their (in one case) twelve (12) years in office. There is an expiration date on SPLOST projects. This one is past that date, contrary to comments by the county attorney.

The majority of the community and over thirty (30) area businesses on that route STRONGLY OPPOSE the project. This disaster will take over two years to construct. During that time, businesses will be harmed and neighborhoods endangered when drivers most certainly will re-route to avoid the area and use a planned U-Turn in the major intersection, potentially increasing accidents. The county is determined to install a raised median and confiscate property for what they say is “safety”. The professional engineers/consultants on the project even resorted to telling businesses that certain business owners support the project when they most definitely DO NOT.

A similar project on Windy Hill Road has harmed one of Smyrna’s oldest restaurants, Old South BBQ. (MDJ 5/31/24)

A recent Open Records Request (ORR) uncovered the details of the so-called crashes along the proposed raised median route by McDonalds and Parkaire Kroger. We requested randomized addresses and dates of crashes. ALL of the crashes requested in the ORR represented by the county as being on Lower Roswell Road were actually in business PARKING LOTS, not in the road. The citizens repeatedly asked for detailed crash information but were denied. Now, we know why.

If this LRR project is so justified, why is the county misleading the citizens and the business owners who will be harmed? If the Professional Engineer (PE) ethics require PE’s to always look after the public welfare, rather than clients, why the deception and why the almost certain harm?

Why should we trust you on the 30-year Mobility SPLOST? The bottom line is…..
We DON’T TRUST YOU!

Before a crowd of about 50 at Sewell Mill Library, Deputy Transportation Director Morgan Simmons laid out the projects which would be funded by the tax, which will be on the Nov. 5 ballot.

FROM MDJ: Skeptical Seniors Grill Cobb Official at Transit Tax

MARIETTA — A boisterous crowd of seniors grilled a Cobb County transportation official at an informational meeting on Cobb’s proposed 30-year transit tax. Before a crowd of about 50 at Sewell Mill Library, Deputy Transportation Director Morgan Simmons laid out the projects which would be funded by the tax, which will be on the Nov. 5 ballot. If the tax is approved in a countywide referendum, Cobb would collect $11 billion over three decades to overhaul its public transportation system. The sales tax would rise from 6% to 7%.
